Chattanooga Community Donates Blood To Help Victims

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- The Chattanooga community is banding together to help the victims involved in this tragedy by donating blood.

Hundreds of people have either already donated blood or called to make appointments to assist in the increased demand for blood.

The blood donated here will be transported as needed to the hospitals where the children in the bus crash incident are located.

All blood assurance donation facilities will reopen at 8 a.m.

Mindy Quinn of Blood Assurance stated, “We are staying open until the last donor that is here is seen. So we’ve been trying to fast pass O negative blood donors since they are in critical need right now and we are scheduling appointments for all the other blood types, but there are some donors who’ve been waiting for an hour or not wanting to go home until they give, so we are staying open.”

Macayla Dowdy who is a UTC nursing student says, “When I heard about the accident, I was like I have to go and I am O negative so it’s really like helpful and they need someone to donate. I come and so it makes me feel better about myself knowing that I am helping other people.”

Blood Assurance’s Chattanooga donor centers have extended hours from 8 a.m  until 7 p.m  Tuesday November 22nd (addresses listed below) to accommodate all blood donors. The community’s support is greatly appreciated. Please call 800.962.0628 and schedule time to give blood this week.
