Chattanooga developing plan to preserve Moccasin Bend

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Moccasin Bend is one of the most beautiful and historically significant sites in Chattanooga. But the winds of change seldom stop blowing.

Now, the future of Moccasin Bend is the subject of spirited debate.

It’s no question that Chattanooga is filled with rich history and unique landmarks that are held dear to our community.

On Thursday, the Moccasin Bend National Archeological District held a public forum to discuss the past, present and future of Moccasin Bend

Community members were invited to learn about the geography of Moccasin Bend and its Indigenous culture.

Many city officials came out to talk about the importance of preserving Moccasin Bend.

Former U.S. Congressmen Zach Wamp also touched on the importance of community involvement.

Former Rep. Zach Wamp speaks on future of Moccasin Bend

“We really cherish the fact that throughout the history of this country, on big things, we come together. Matters of war and peace, we meet on the water’s edge. Matters of preservation and conservation and doing the right thing by our legacy and education, we come together,” said former U.S. Rep. Zach Wamp.

With a plan in place, community leaders and citizens are working towards saving the Bend for generations to come.
