Chattanooga Fire opens 20th fire station

HIXSON, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Chattanooga Fire Department opens a new fire station in Hixson.

City leaders and Fire Chief Chris Adams presided over the ceremonies for Station 11 on Hixson Pike.

Chief Adams says 15 firefighters are assigned to the station, and they’ll be equipped with a pumper that has a 1,500 gallon-per-minute capacity.

The apparatus is also equipped with new mobile data technology, which is part of the mayor’s Safer Streets Initiative.

“This station adds to our responsiveness, we try to make sure that every place we go we can get there in five minutes or less, and if you look on the Chatta-data site you can see actually how quickly we get to our individual stations and, individual calls, and this is a great addition to make sure that more people in our city are served,” says Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke.

“We’re not only here to celebrate the opening of Chattanooga’s newest fire station, but also to celebrate and give thanks to the men and women of the Chattanooga Fire Department, those that have gove before us, those that are here today, and those that are yet to join the force,” says Councilman Ken Smith
