Chattanooga firefighter injured as high winds feed the flames in afternoon house fire
Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – Strong winds Wednesday afternoon fed the flames when fire broke out in a house on Wheeler Avenue.
Chattanooga Fire Department Captain Wadie Suttles said when flames blew out a front window shortly after firefighters entered the home.
Captain Scott Pell said the high winds blew in through the open window, fanning the flames and that’s when one firefighter received relatively minor burns to his neck, face and arms.
Though his burns are not life-threatening, he is expected to be taken to the the burn unit at Vanderbilt Hospital Thursday for further evaluation.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
