Chattanooga firefighters assist mother and newborn after roadside birth
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD) helped a woman welcome her baby into the world last week.
On August 14, 2025, around 1:00 a.m., a mother gave birth to her baby on I-75 while on their way to the hospital.
Crews met the two at a gas station on Gunbarrel Road.
CFD said Lt. Efiom rendered aid to mom and her baby girl, Emma Lucille.
The mother and baby were later transported to the hospital, where the family and baby Emma are doing great.
The family reached out to Lt. Efiom to thank him for his assistance that morning, and to also thank him for everything he does in the community on a daily basis.
CFD also thanked Erlanger for providing an OB class to Lt. Efiom and his crew earlier in their 24-hour shift that day.
This class taught them how to assist in the delivery of a newborn.
CFD and all of News 12 wish the family and baby Emma the best as this new chapter in their lives begins.
