Chattanooga football ends spring with showcase

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Spring is officially over, at least in Chattanooga football’s eyes. The Mocs entertained fans with a spring showcase at Finley Stadium Saturday afternoon.

It wasn’t the traditional spring game — more of an open spring practice. Returning starting quarterback Cole Copeland threw a couple touchdowns during the scrimmage portion.

This is the first true full spring coach Rusty Wright has experienced since taking over. He says he likes the growth he’s seeing but there are still a lot of gaps that need to be filled. Learning how to trust and communicate are at the top of the list.

“We got a couple guys that I think are playing out of position because we don’t have a guy there. We’re still recruiting. We’re still doing that. We’ve got guys here this weekend,” Wright said. “It’s just a constant evaluation, a constant moving piece that you kind of have to figure out as it goes. We got to try and figure out the best guys that are going to help us in the fall.”
