Chattanooga Gas announces certified low emission natural gas

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Chattanooga Gas is serious about reducing its carbon footprint.

All the gas they provide residential and small business customers is produced, transported and delivered by companies that are reducing their methane emissions.

They call it Next Generation Natural gas.

“Next Generation Natural Gas is natural gas that is securely tracked and independently certified to be low emissions across the entire natural gas value chain,” said Pedro Cherry, President and CEO of Chattanooga Gas.

Chattanooga Gas has entered an agreement with Williams’ Sequent Energy Management.

Next year, they hope to remove the equivalent of the pollution generated by more than 3500 cars.

“This benefits all of us who live, work and play in this region,” said Cherry. “This is a major milestone for the entire natural gas ecosystem, from production to in use.”

State lawmakers helped pave the way last year by passing the Tennessee Natural Gas Innovation Act in 2022.

The long-term goal is to achieve net zero GHG emissions from Chattanooga Gas by 2050.

“On innovations like this, we can serve our customers that clean, safe, reliable and affordable natural gas while also providing that convenient comfort and chose well into a net zero future,” Cherry concluded.
