Chattanooga Gas customers may be eligible for bill payment assistance

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Chattanooga Gas customers now have a chance to receive natural gas bill payment assistance. They partnered with Chattanooga’s Salvation Army to launch this new program for customers in need.

This Salvation Army program is called “Shield of Warmth.” Chattanooga Gas donated $500,000 to fund this program.

Eligible Chattanooga Gas customers may receive support of up to $300 per year to apply to their bill. In addition, seniors, aged 64 and older, and veterans can receive up to an additional $150 in support.

To be eligible for the Shield of Warmth program, Chattanooga Gas customers must have a household gross income up to 250% of the Federal Poverty Level in the last 30 days. That would be a gross monthly income of $6,250 for a family of four.

These funds will also go toward The Salvation Army’s case management and disaster relief services.

“Our partnerships with companies like Chattanooga Gas are pivotal,” said Major Douglas McClure, Area Commander of The Salvation Army of Chattanooga. “They help ensure our ability to effectively serve the needs of our community during these challenging economic times.”
