Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy brings back alumns

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy is 10 years old.

And the staff announced that it has formed an Alumni Association.

CGLA started with 75 students in 2009.

Now there are 350 young women enrolled there.

Many of the graduates were back on campus today as the school hosted an event from 9 to 12.

The staff says the students give back to the community.

Principal Maryo Beck tells us  “We here at CGLA do a lot of things, numerous things. We do a lot of fund-raising to support things that we don’t ask parents and families to contribute. So we are looking now to ask them to start giving back a little bit. So, because that is important. Once you have received it’s also important to give back. So we want to teach them that lifelong skill as well.”

CGLA is one of 15 Charter Schools in the Hamilton county school district.
