Chattanooga group gives out handmade scarves to those in need

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A group in Chattanooga is making sure people in need stay warm this winter by giving out handmade scarves.

Friday morning, people with Scarves for Charity put 700 scarves on the fence at the Salvation Army on McCallie Avenue.

The scarves come with a note that says, “I am not lost. I was handmade for you. If you are cold and in need, please take me.”

The woman who started this project and 80 volunteers knit, crochet, and weave the scarves throughout the year.

People who got a scarf say they are thankful.

“They are beautiful because they were handmade. It is not lost. They were handmade by people who care. They give them to people they love,” Linda Simpkins said.

Those involved say they expect all the scarves to be gone by the end of the day.
