Chattanooga home catches fire, displaces three residents

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Two people received injuries from a house fire in Chattanooga on Wednesday, firefighters said.

According to the Chattanooga Fire Department, a duplex caught fire in the 1400 block of Roanoke Avenue, near Wilcox Boulevard. Firefighters responded just before 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The duplex had one apartment in the front and one in the back. But the apartment at the rear had smoke coming through the wall. The residents called 911 and evacuated the home.

Two people, an adult and a juvenile, went to the hospital for possible smoke inhalation.

A fire chief was at the traffic light on Wilcox Boulevard and saw the smoke when the call came in. He immediately responded to the call.

The fire department said they quickly contained the fire to the front apartment, where nobody was home.

CFD says the American Red Cross is going to assist the three residents who were impacted by the fire.

Authorities are now investigating to determine the cause.
