Chattanooga I-24 semi-truck crash injures two drivers
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A semi-truck crashed on I-24 in Chattanooga on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Chattanooga Police, the crash involved two vehicles and it happened just after 4 p.m. on October 24.
Police say a semi-truck was traveling west on I-24, left the roadway and struck the embankment on the westbound side of the interstate. The truck then crossed the median and went into the eastbound lanes of I-24. Police say the truck hit a Kia Sorento and then turned onto its side in the eastbound lanes of I-24.
Officers are unsure why the semi-truck initially left the roadway.
The truck was blocking the entire eastbound side of I-24.
When Chattanooga Police arrived, they say they found the truck driver in critical condition. The truck driver is a 59-year-old man, police said.
In addition, officers found the driver of the Nissan to have injuries that were not life-threatening. The Nissan driver is a 35-year-old woman, according to police.
They did not identify either driver.
Chattanooga Firefighters had to extricate both drivers from their vehicles. EMS took them both to a hospital.
The police department is continuing to investigate the crash.
