Chattanooga is working “9 to 5” to celebrate Dolly Parton’s birthday

Signal Centers board member Nicole Watson joins News 12’s Amelia Greer to invite everyone to celebrate Dolly Parton’s 79th birthday with special events happening across Chattanooga.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – It’s country music legend Dolly Parton’s 79th birthday and Chattanooga is taking a full week to celebrate thanks to the work of Signal Centers!

It’s all to help promote Dolly Parton’s beloved program, the Imagination Library, which gives free books to children 5 and under to help start building those reading skills early. Currently, 14,000 children are registered for the program in Hamilton County, and Signal Centers wanted to celebrate Dolly for helping children get a head start in their education.

This weekend will be filled with activities to fill out a “passport” to enter for a chance to win a free iPad. To receive a stamp, families pick up a passport at any local library and visit these events:

  • Chattanooga Public Library’s Dolly Days celebrations at all branches
  • UTC vs. Mercer women’s basketball game on Saturday, Jan. 18. from 2 to 4 p.m.
  • Donuts and Storytime at Lickin’ Good Donuts on Jan. 19 from noon to 2 p.m.
  • Clumpies Ice Cream Co.’s storytime on Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the Southside and Northshore locations

Clumpies Ice Cream Co. also has a special ice cream inspired by Dolly Parton called “a cup of ambition.”

Families can also take a journey around the city on the CARTA buses which have special wrapping honoring Dolly Parton.
