Chattanooga Lookouts Digging Rules to Speed Up the Game
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) The new rules to speed up baseball games appear to be a hit with the Chattanooga Lookouts.
This is the second year minor league teams like Chattanooga have been under the pitch clock.
And as you can imagine, the Lookouts enjoy being able to clock out of work sooner.
When the pitch clock hit the minors, games started to rock around the clock.
Said hitting coach Daryle Ward:”2021 we had a season where it seemed like all of our games were like four hours. And so like the next year when they implemented the rule, it was like man the game is over? Like I’m looking, and I can’t believe what time it is right now.”
Yeah 2022 was the first year of the pitch clock in the minors.
Game times were trimmed an average of 25 minutes.
Said pitching coach Brian Garman:”It’s just nice to not sit out here for three and-a-half hours regularly.”
Said pitcher Evan Kravetz:”I think we all appreciate what it does. I know we all love getting done with a game in 2 and-a-half hours instead of four. Our girlfriends all love it too.”
Hey. Hey. Hey.
Lookouts pitcher Evan Kravetz admits he had to get used to the pitch clock.
Said Kravetz:”I think the first few times we pitched with the clock it was probably in the back of our heads. Felt more like an aerobic workout than a pitching outing at some points.”
Reporter:”Is it comfortable now?”
Said Kravetz:”It is. It is. It feels like baseball. It truly feels like a normal baseball game,”
Pitching coach Brian Garman wishes the pitch clock gave the hurlers just a little more time.
Said Garman:”I think the elbow injury kind of epidemic that we are seeing in baseball could be potentially or could be stopped. Not stopped, but I guess slowed down if we were able to have a little bit more time to let the body recover after trying to throw X-number of pitches 100 miles-an-hour.”
Everyone’s body is getting a chance to recover quicker since the games are now shorter.
Said Ward:”I really enjoy it. I get some time to go home with my family. They’re still up. I get a chance to kind of talk to them and unwind from the game. So you know thanks for implementing those rules because it’s a real benefit to us.”
