Chattanooga man pulled over for speeding, arrested for guns, drugs

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) attempted a traffic stop, in which they found various guns and drugs in the vehicle last week.

Chattanooga Police said they tried to routinely stop a silver Audi for speeding on June 26 around 10 p.m.

Ja’vonte Pratt, 21, was driving the Audi when he was stopped on Cromwell Road, police said.

According to CPD, officers noticed an open container in Pratt’s car and tried to detain him. However, police said he resisted and started fighting the officers.

Officers searched the car and found drugs and weapons.

They found marijuana and several fentanyl pills, according to CPD.

In addition, police said they found an AR pistol, a Glock pistol, a drum magazine and other magazines.

Officers arrested Pratt and charged him with the following:

  • Resisting arrest or obstruction of legal process
  • Possession of a firearm during a felony – 2 counts
  • Drugs general category for resale – 2 counts
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Tinted window violation
  • Open container law.
