Chattanooga Mayor Kelly promises more proactive policing
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly is promising more intensive policing around Patten Towers after the murder of Chris Wright.
This comes ahead of the Chattanooga National Night Out, taking place Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m.
Wright was fatally shot downtown as he was on his way to his 20th high school reunion.
The mayor is now promising increased video surveillance by police around the Patten Towers.
He also plans to meet with management there to discuss hiring their own private security.
However, Mayor Kelly says there aren’t easy answers or a single initiative that can solve violent crime.
“Every Chattanoogan deserves to feel safe: at home, at work, downtown, on the street, in our parks, at events, and throughout the community,” said Mayor Kelly. “That starts with law enforcement – and CPD remains committed to proactive policing and enforcement strategies that seek out bad actors and that focus on those committing a majority of the crime in the areas where that crime is occurring.”
