Chattanooga Mocs Digging New Football Facility
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) UTC opened their new football building last month.
The 36-million-dollar project also included upgrades to the adjoining McKenzie Arena.
The modern facility has the Mocs feeling like they’re among the big boys of college football.
Said defensive lineman Quay Wiggles:”I have been waiting a long time for this to be done.”
The waiting is the hardest part as Tom Petty used to sing. Now the Mocs are singing the praises of the new Bucky Wolford Family Athletic Center.
Reporter:”What kind of game changer has this new building been for the Mocs football program?”
Said head coach Rusty Wright:”Well you remember where you were two weeks ago? Okay. It’s a lot better right?”
Said offensive lineman Dave Monnet:”My first two years here we were put up in some facilities where you just had to make do. Now I walk in here every day. Beautiful team meeting room we are in right now. Locker rooms. Weight rooms. Makes if feel like a whole new program.”
The bulk of the new complex is dedicated to the football team.
The Mocs logo is splashed everywhere, and there’s also a nod to past UTC greats.
Said receiver Javin Whatley:”Our locker room has a play station. An X-box. TV. Wi-fi. We are like in a chill spot for the players.”
Reporter:”What’s your favorite part of the new facility?”
Said Wright” Probably this room. (team meeting room) I have an opportunity to see everybody at one time. Two years we had a team meeting on Monday mornings down there on Scrappy just like we did in high school. It’s a receptive space for people to be.”
Cushy theater seats are always receptive.
Reporter:”It feels first class.”
Said Wiggles:”Yeah. Definitely. It makes us feel like we are in higher comforts. Doesn’t look like we are in the SoCon right now.”
Said Whatley:”In fall camp I don’t think guys were going home. I think they were just staying here all day. I don’t blame them though.”
