Chattanooga opens Lake Resort Drive Bridge
HIXSON, Tenn. (WDEF)- Local government officials came together to celebrate the opening of Lake Resort Bridge on Friday.
Work on the bridge began last year after clay topsoil caused the road to shift and then fail.
The project took 5 point 8 million dollars and was funded through state and federal emergency relief dollars.
Lake Resort Drive will also act as an evacuation route for Sequoyah Nuclear Plant.
“As a teenager, I grew up here, this has always been a dodgy stretch of road, and so look, this is a great example of the government solving people’s problems,” said Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly. “This is a long term solution for something that had been a real problem for a number of years so Hixson residents, this is a really great day.”
According to the City of Chattanooga, more than 10,000 vehicles will drive corridor every day
