The incident happened May 24 at around 11:30 p.m. in the 4600 block of Highway 58.

Upon arrival, officers found a 14-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound.

Hamilton County EMS took the victim to the hospital. They said his injuries were not life-threatening.

According to police, the victim was playing with fireworks in a parking lot with his friend. They then went to the gas station across the street to get a drink when the suspect, Dunnigan, shot him.

Officers said the victim was shot in the leg.

An affidavit states Dunnigan was hiding behind cars and wearing a toboggan during the incident.

CPD’s Homicide Unit conducted an investigation to identify Dunnigan as the suspect.

The affidavit explained Dunnigan was arrested for a separate incident on Monday, May 27. On that day, police said Dunnigan flashed a gun at gas station employees who refused to sell him nicotine without an ID.

CPD said the investigation is still ongoing.
