Chattanooga Police Officer unintentionally fires weapon

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Chattanooga Police say one of their officers accidentally shot a man, who had just committed suicide.

It happened on Sunday in the 4-thousand block block of Oakwood Drive.

Chattanooga Police officers say they told a suicidal suspect to lower their weapon.

But investigators say that man fired his gun, and killed himself.

After the shooting, Police say an officer unintentionally fired his department weapon three times.

One of the bullets went into the dead man’s leg.

All of the officers on scene were placed on leave.

Members of the Violent Crimes Bureau, and Internal Affairs Units are investigating.
