UPDATE: Woman dies in pedestrian involved crash

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – A woman died this morning in a pedestrian involved crash while trying to cross Highway 153 near Northgate Mall. The crash involved a blue Dodge Challenger belonging to Ricky Hughes, 33, and a pedestrian, Ashley Marie Morris, 23.

The driver was traveling north on Hwy 153 in the left travel lane. As the vehicle approached the 5200 block, a pedestrian crossed from east to west on Hwy 153. The driver stated that he did not see the pedestrian until it was too late. The pedestrian was transported to a local Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Witnesses stated that driver had no time to react when pedestrian ran across the highway. There are no street lights in that area. Police say the driver who hit the woman stopped and is cooperating with investigators.

Chattanooga Traffic Division are actively investigating this crash and will be following all actionable leads. Several lanes were blocked as investigators re-created the scene. There are no charges against the driver at this time.

Chattanooga Police ask anyone with information regarding this incident to call. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when available.
