Spokesperson for ChattState calling the incident a hoax

 

UPDATE:  The incident that occurred at Chattanooga State this morning has been determined to be a hoax.

Payton Potter from Chattanooga State released a statement saying, “Law enforcement determined the threat to be a hoax and declared the campus was safe.”

“We want to extend our sincere gratitude to the many agencies and individuals who worked hard to protect our students, employees, and the entire campus community.  While we now know that today’s threat was not legitimate, it served as a reminder of the many brave law enforcement and other first responders who stand ready to protect our community,” said the President of ChattState, Rebecca Ashford, Ed.D.

ChattState will reopen and operate normally Friday, August 30, 2024.


CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) —  Chattanooga Police (CPD) and several other agencies responded to a possible gunman on the Chattanooga State Community College.

At 10:02 a.m., CPD stated they received several calls about a possible gunman at the campus on Amnicola Highway.

CPD received a call demanding payment and threatening to harm students if the payment wasn’t received.

Other law enforcement agencies responded to the scene and the campus was placed on a lockdown.

The campus was extensively searched by no credible threat was located.

Classes have been canceled for the rest of the school day.

Chattanooga Police and federal investigators are continuing the investigation.
