Chattanooga police sergeant relieved of duty after being charged
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A Chattanooga police sergeant has been relieved of his position following an aggravated assault charge.
On October 6, the Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) responded to a reported aggravated assault near the intersection of Gunbarrel Road and Crane Road.
The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m.
Upon arriving, the suspect was identified as Chattanooga Police Sergeant Worlie Johnson.
The case was sent to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) for further investigation.
It was then presented by the HCSO to the Hamilton County Grand Jury on October 7.
Johnson was charged with one count of aggravated assault and booked at the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center on October 8.
The CPD seized Johnson’s patrol vehicle and city-issued equipment, and has been relieved of all his duties.
