Chattanooga Police: Teen shoots and kills 15-year-old girl

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A 16-year-old shot and killed a teenage girl at the end of October, according to Chattanooga police.

The shooting happened in the 1400 block of Chamberlain Avenue on October 28, at around 7:30 p.m.

Chattanooga officers said they found a 15-year-old girl with a life-threatening gunshot wound upon arrival.

Hamilton County EMS took the teen to a hospital, where she died from her injury, police said.

They are ruling her death as a homicide.

Authorities were originally unsure if her death was caused by someone else. But after investigating, police concluded that the 16-year-old boy was responsible.

Homicide investigators then arrested the boy on November 9.

He faces charges of reckless homicide and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Police also booked him into the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center.

They are still investigating but cannot release the identity of the suspect since he is a juvenile.
