Chattanooga State offering robotics, musical theatre camps in 2024
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Chattanooga State Community College will offer musical theatre and robotics summer day camps in 2024.
Registration for both of these camps is now open.
Chatt State says seats are limited, and they encourage parents to sign their children up soon.
The camps are for those between eight years old and recent high school graduates.
Those interested can sign up here.
Robotics Camp
The robotics camp is open to children between the ages of 8 and 13. Students can opt to go to the Chatt State main campus or the Kimball campus for this camp.
This camp will be offered between June 3 and August 2.
“We have a very low student-teacher ratio because every child needs a little bit of help,” said Lisa Hayes, owner and director of RoboThink for Middle Tennessee and Chattanooga. “I want them to think, ‘Robotics Camp was a lot of fun. I feel confident with STEM.’”
Chatt State says this summer, they are offering “Building Bots for Battle” and “Building Robopetz” classes. Campers will learn to work with gears, motors, axles and other RoboThink hardware.
Musical Theatre Camp
Musical theatre camp is catered to students just entering sixth grade to those who just graduated high school.
It will only take place on the main Chatt State campus. This camp will take place from July 22 to July 26.
At musical theatre camp, instructors will guide students through the production of Tony-award-winning musical, “Godspell.”
Campers will learn music, choreography, acting and audition skills, the college explained. They will also learn about set design and lighting.
“There’s a greater purpose behind this camp: building life skills, building a connection to other students, building empathy,” drama professor Arbogast Wilson said. “It teaches you things like confidence.”
The “Godspell” performance will take place on July 26 at 4 p.m. at the Chatt State Humanities Auditorium. It will be free and open to the public.
