Chattanooga to renovate skate park amid roller skating resurgence
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly announced on Thursday the city will be making renovations to its skate park.
Renovations to the skate park will include a new 30,000-square-foot park. They will pour in concrete, add skateable art sculptures and other various riding terrains, Mayor Kelly explained.
Additionally, the city will add a dog park, green spaces, a music stage and area for food trucks.
The remodel of the Chattanooga Skate Park was part of the FY25 budget approval, the mayor stated.
The skate park’s current location is 1801 Reggie White Boulevard.
Mayor Kelly explained how this has been the city’s only designated place for skaters for the last 25 years.
The skating scene has progressed throughout the years in Chattanooga.
Recently, roller skating has become a more popular activity across the country.
Locally owned Dazey Skate Co. has recently been collaborating with other events in the area to make roller skating an option. One of those has been Nightfall this year. Last year, “Dance Skate” had a roller-skating setup at the Chatt Town Cool Down event.
For a month, Dazey Skate Co. will take over the Chattanooga Choo Choo with a “Skate Station.” That will begin on Wednesday, July 3. Find those event dates here.
