Chattanooga Zoo mourns the passing of a beloved red panda

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – The Chattanooga Zoo is mourning the passing of their beloved red panda, Wen-Dee.

Officials had to make the difficult, but humane decision to euthanize her due to terminal health issues from advanced age.

The life expectancy for red pandas in captivity is 12 to 14 years.

Wen-Dee was 16-years-old.

She came to the Chattanooga Zoo in April of 2013 from the Kansas City Zoo.

Chattanooga Zoo officials say Wen-Dee was a fantastic artist, loved snacking on grapes, and participated in many red panda encounters.

She will be greatly missed.
