Chattanoogan’s beat the heat with ‘Chatt Town Cool Down’

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Chattanooga Parks & Outdoors along with Outdoor Chattanooga hosted a weekend full of family-friendly fun.

The inaugural ‘Chatt Town Cool Down’ helped the community beat the heat with water-related activities.

The event ran from Friday, Aug. 25 to Saturday Aug. 26 at Ross’s Landing and Coolidge Park.

“We are thrilled with the turnout from our community. We’ve had folks from all over come and have been seeing a lot of our locals to join us in this end of summer riverside celebration, which has been great,” Director of Outdoor Chattanooga Gail Loveland Barille said.

People of all ages came around to enjoy their weekend and get cooled off despite the rising high temperatures.

“We saw the event come across Facebook and saw a few signs around the city… and I said, ‘Hey it sounds like a great day to take the kids to.’ It’s free, that’s definitely for me. We got lemonade, we’ve been riding the bikes, and the kids have been loving it,” Kiundra Hayward said.

Various activities took place throughout the weekend with many vendors supporting the event.

Loveland Barille added, “It’s great to see so many kids and families out in our community. You know I think most importantly Outdoor Chattanooga’s purpose is to get folks outside. We know that just by getting outside, you are going to have the benefits of mental wellness and physical health. So, we’re just trying to get folks outside… and why not have a ton of fun while we do it?”

Activities started on Friday with a ‘Splash Down’ that Outdoor Chattanooga said had the best attendance they have seen.

More festivities included roller disco, rock climbing, and even a ‘Fireboat Splash’ by the Chattanooga Fire Department.

“We’re just thankful that we’re able to bring this kind of programming to our community and frankly we want to hear more. What else do you want to see? Because we’re here to get our communities outside and active,” Loveland Barille said.

Outdoor Chattanooga along with Chattanooga Parks and Outdoors hope to continue this event next year at the end of summer.
