Chattanoogans Rally in Support of Domestic Partnership Ordinance
A group of citizens today launched their campaign supporting the domestic partnership referendum with a rally at city hall.
They’re calling it "Yes Chattanooga."
"We are engaging people in a civic engagement. We’re going to see what they think about the issue, and I’m confident that my city will not tell me that I’m different from the other people that work for the city of Chattanooga," said Councilman Chris Anderson.
They want citizens to support the referendum that would protect city employees from discrimination based on sexual identity.
It also extends health insurance benefits to partners of workers in domestic same sex relationships, including same sex partners.
"It’s about fairness. Discrimination is not something that should be happening anywhere, especially in this day and age. So, that’s why we’re here to support it." said Dawn Collins.
People at the rally signed up to volunteer to make phone calls and go door to door in support of the referendum.
