Parks and Outdoors Advisory Committee meets for first time

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Chattanooga’s first ever Parks and Outdoors Advisory Committee met Thursday at the Grymes Outdoor Chattanooga Center in Coolidge Park.
One of the first orders of business was selection of vice chair. That honor went to Shelby Meek.
“Moving to Chattanooga was really by choice because of all the outdoor activities, and just how accessible the parks are. I’ve got three little kids and another one on the way, so we enjoy going to all of the parks and really want to be a part of continuing to develop the parks in the future,” said Shelby Meek.
The Parks and Outdoors Advisory Committee is to provide advice on activities, design and functionality of the city’s parks and outdoors system.
The POC laid out the system and infrastructure plan – this plan gets into programming and activation.
The point was made that Chattanooga is one of the few places that is a city and a park, and a park that is a city.
