Chattanooga’s Southside banners get a local upgrade

CHATTANOOGA Tenn. (WDEF) – A new banner is coming to the Southside.

Local artist Jaclyn Lewis designed the new banner that will line the streets of Chattanooga’s Southside.

She incorporated things that she said makes the southside, like a soccer ball, music notes and vibrant colors.

This is the first of new banners coming all over Chattanooga.

The Riverfront District will be the next area to receive a refresh.

River City Company’s goal with the new banners is to have them installed by February 2024.

“We just did the Southside. Next is the riverfront, which is another heavily visited part of our town. We will get to showcase another great piece of art by way of the banner,” said Carmen Davis, the Senior Director of the Office of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy. “Then we will move through the downtown footprint. We will keep going until they are all replaced, hopefully. Donna has been amazing about getting the support and having the payment able to support the artist financially as well. I’m really excited about this.”

The printing and installation of the banners were all done by locals as well.

Calls for artists to apply for future banners will be released in 2024.

The new riverfront banner is down to its final three artists.
