Check out the new Roland Hayes exhibit at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – You can learn all about one of Chattanooga’s most famous residents in a new exhibit at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center.
    Internationally-known opera singer Roland Hayes was born in Gordon County, Georgia but grew up in Chattanooga.
    Hayes’ resume is an impressive one.
    Officials at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center say he was the highest paid singer in the world for the year of 1928.
    He performed at Carnegie Hall and even held a private concert for King George the Fifth of England.
    Paula Wilkes serves as Director of Operations at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center.  She explained, "He’s just a lot of information that we wanted to share with the community about Roland Hayes.  The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is home to the Roland Hayes Concert Hall and we’re just really excited to start introducing more local legends into the community."
    The Roland Hayes exhibit runs now through October 31st.
