Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office responds to suicide

CHEROKEE COUNTY — The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) says they have responded to a suicide that occurred in the Hanging Dog community of Cherokee County.

They say they responded on March 3 to reports of a subject suffering from a gunshot wound.

Upon arrival, bystanders had already begun rendering aid to the victim.

The victim was identified as Joseph A. Kieffer, 50, of Louisiana.

The CCSO says that the gunshot had been self-inflicted.

They say Kieffer succumbed to his injuries on scene.

At this time, no charges are expected to be filed.
