Cherokees vote on allowing recreational marijuana in North Carolina
CHEROKEE, N.C. (WDEF) – Will the Cherokees bring recreational marijuana to western North Carolina?
The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians will vote in two weeks on legalizing recreational use, which would be a first in North Carolina.
If approved, the only place you could legally purchase and use Marijuana in the state would be in the Qualla Boundary, which includes parts of Cherokee County.
The Cherokees began a medical marijuana program this spring.
Medical marijuana is also illegal in all other parts of the state.
But anyone in North Carolina can enroll in the Cherokee program.
The recreational marijuana vote is on September 7.
