Child Shot in Stomach in Murray County
Murray County, GA (WDEF) –
A 2-year-old Murray County girl gets rushed into emergency surgery after authorities said shot herself.
Murray County Sheriff Gary Langford tells us it happened when the girl and her father were laying in bed at their home on Fullers Chapel Road.
The toddler was shot in the abdomen with a .25-caliber gun.
But the shot went cleanly through and did not hit any major organs.
The Sheriff tells News12 the gun belonged to her mother.
She was at work when the shooting happened around 10:30 Thursday morning.
The girl’s name has not been released but she was transferred to Erlanger Medical Center and is currently in the ICU.
Officials expect her to survive.
Right now officials are investigating this as an accidental shooting.
The GBI remains on the scene to continue the investigation.
