Choice lanes move forward in Tennessee
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WDEF)- A project to introduce choice lanes in Tennessee is continuing to move forward.
The Transportation Modernization Board approved several portions of a project to introduce these lanes between Nashville and Murfreesboro on I-24.
These are toll lanes that would be used to try to alleviate traffic.
The board approved restrictions on some commercial vehicles with multiple trailers, while other commercial vehicles like buses or single trailers could use them with enhanced fees.
The tolls themselves will vary based on demand and average speed.
Bryan Ledford, a TDOT Bureau Chief, said, “The price that is posted when you pass under that gantry is locked in for your trip, and then when you come to another gantry and see another number, you’ll have an opportunity to make a buy decision or not. You’ll have the opportunity to exit the lanes, or say “Yes, I agree to that price” and pass under that gantry, that’s absolutely essential to truth in advertising.”
There have been discussions about these choice lanes coming to the Chattanooga area, but there have not been any concrete plans introduced to do so.
