Christian Heritage Still Undefeated With 17-0 Record
Dalton, GA-(WDEF-TV) When you get this deep into the high school basketball season, and you still haven’t suffered a loss, you know you have a pretty good team. That’s the case for Christian Heritage. The Lions have yet to taste the agony of defeat.
When you’re 17-0, it’s kind of hard not to think about your record.
Said guard Jax Abernathy:”Yeah I mean it can get to you. I mean just try not to think about it. It’s a good thing to go undefeated, but you can’t get complacent and stuff, and think we are good enough.”
Said head coach Tyler Watkins:”We kind of went back to our culture, and we focus on being passionate, tough, and loyal. This group has bought into that culture, and they’ve got some character.”
Coach Watkins has some character too.
He can be the Lions energy drink when needed.
Said Watkins:”We say we want to play with the juice. Just understand it’s crazy energy, so that starts in warm-ups. So we talk about winning the first a lot and being ready to play. You know being tough and being fight ready. All those things are things we talk about.”
Reporter:”What makes you guys hard to beat?”
Said forward Cash Hare:”We are so disciplined. We are well coached. We shoot the ball really well. Just play good team basketball.”
Good teams have good players.
Lions feature one of the best in All-State Junior guard Jax Abernathy.
Said Watkins:”Yeah Jax is just a special player. Special offensive player. I thought one of the biggest plays of the game was him diving on the floor at half-court. He has become a much better defender for us.”
Christian Heritage has enjoyed a lot of success recently, but still no state championship banner.
Said Watkins:”We want to finish. We didn’t finish like we wanted to last year. I think the reason for that is you’ve got to get better every single day. Win, loss, or whatever, we are going to learn and grow from it. We are not afraid. We are not afraid to lose. We are going to learn. We are going to keep getting better, and we are going to keep working every day.”
