Christmas trees and electronic recycled at Dalton Home Depot
DALTON, Ga. (WDEF) — Keep Dalton-Whitfield Beautiful’s annual Bring One for the Chipper event was held earlier on Saturday at Home Depot.
Their efforts are to recycle live, natural, decoration-free Christmas trees after the holiday season… along with your used electronic devices and cardboard.
Executive Director Amy Hartline said, “We’re bringing all of our live decorating trees… We’ve gotten almost at the 50 at this point where we put them through the chipper… molting them up and then turning that into mulch. We’re gonna use that in hearts throughout Whitfield County after we’re done.”
When you come to drop off your old raggedy Christmas tree for shredding, don’t forget to stop by the tables to get ready for the spring season with seeds for your garden.
“…On the other side we got electronics, recycling and cardboard recycling… So he seen a lot of flat screen TVs today and a lot of BlackBerry cell phones… So we got a lot of interesting stuff coming in. Also got some free seed packets. Free flower seeds and vegetable seeds courtesy of Home Depot and we’re given those out too,” Hartline said.
Throughout the years, the holiday spirit has dropped off a little but it seemed as if people were buying in a little more to the Christmas cheer this season as they have seen more trees this year than ones before.
“So far we’ve got about 50 in this year which is more than we’ve been seeing the past couple years, so I think people are really in the Christmas spirit this year,” Hartline said.
She added that it surprised her that there were actually more Christmas trees than electronics this year.
