Church Affordable Housing Plan Moves Forward

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – A proposed affordable housing development connected to Greater Tucker Missionary Baptist Church is moving closer to construction after the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission approved a key request at its March 2026 meeting.

The commission approved the zoning request for Greater Tucker Missionary Baptist Church’s housing development at 1107 North Moore Road, which involved lifting previous zoning conditions tied to the property.

Those earlier conditions were part of a 2022 rezoning approval and were amended so the development can proceed under the updated plans.

Church leaders say the housing plan has been in development for about five years.

What began as a proposal focused on senior living has evolved into a mixed affordable housing development intended to serve multiple age groups, with senior living located toward the back of the property and other housing toward the front.

Project supporters say it aims to help address the city’s ongoing need for more affordable housing, particularly for older adults and families.

Representatives with the church say there will be roughly 54 units developed. With the next steps being preparing for construction, with a groundbreaking estimated between March and May 2026.
