Church makes goodie bags for inmates

CLEVELAND, Tennessee (WDEF) – The Christmas season is a time for giving.

And that’s exactly what a one church in Cleveland did this morning.

Bringing a little “Holiday Spirit” to almost 500 people.

News 12’s Dave Staley tell us about it!

It’s a big truck……and it’s filled with lots of goodies. Goodie Bags, to be exact. 600 of them. To be handed out to those inmates incarcerated at the Bradley County Justice Center in Cleveland.
Pastor Cy Harris and a group of volunteers from the North Cleveland Church of God are behind it all. As they’ve done for several years now.
It takes a couple of months to pull this venture together. But when all finished up, bagged up and ready for delivery, the bags contain a lot of stuff!!!

“Ladies socks. Mens socks. Feminine things for the women. Lotion. The men don’t care about that too much. Bars of soap. Things of that nature.”

The church received donations from many area stores. And then packed the bags up individually. And handed them out.
Pastor Harris says the prisoners are very appreciated of the gesture.

“Two years ago, there were two ladies in here. And they cried when they received their goodie bags. They said it was the only Christmas they’d have this year. It got to my heart. I had to do something more. So every year, I’ve added more people. Tried to share more blessings.”

Pastor Harris says of the 600 “goodie bags”…….the bulk went to the male inmates, but 100 went to the female inmates.
