City Council discusses potential new staff position

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Chattanooga City Council discussed a potential change to how they reach out to the public during a committee session Tuesday.

A new position called Constituent Services Director was proposed by Councilperson Marvene Noel.

The position she said would simplify their ability to address citizen concerns and participate in various neighborhood meetings.

However, council members debated if they would have to pull from their own funds to create the position or ask the city for additional staff funding of up to $100,000.

Noel said that it is inefficient to not have this position, as she said, “That person, even though I have reached out and did not get a response that I needed, this person who is the Director of Constituents could handle that. Whereas I would have to go back two or three times to do that. That time I could spend on something else that I have to do.”

This proposal has not been set for a vote.
