City officials urge folks to prepare for the winter storm
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF)- Snow is expected to hit the Tennessee Valley later this week.
City officials are urging folks to plan ahead before the winter storm arrives!
“We figured that as closer as the the actual time of the event, we just want to make sure that we are prepared ahead of time. Our highway departments are out grinding and and getting ready for the the roads to be covered with snow,” said Amy Maxwell, PIO for Hamiulton County Emergency Management.
Chattanooga’s Department of Public Works will implement the city’s comprehensive snow and ice road treatment, Thursday January 8th.
Maxwell believe it is important that folks are proactive.
“We have learned from experience, it’s happened here. It is a matter of not if it is a matter of when. So get out and make sure that you get those things that you need now and be prepared ahead of time. You do not want to have to have to come to your house when it could be something that can be preventable,” said Maxwell.
In the event of snow, folks are encouraged not to drive in it.
Emergency Mangement even suggest to clean out your chimney to keep air flowing.
If you do not have addition heating, emergency officials consider it safe to stay with a friend or relative.
News 12 Weather Anchor, Chip Chapman also warns parents to be aware of school closings.
“Friday afternoon and Friday night, it will be the heaviest snow, and once you start seeing it accumulate on the grounds and out on the roadways, that accumulation will increase in a hurry,” said Chapman.
Emergency officials mission it to urge people to be safe.
Maxwell says as you plan ahead, assistance is currently available.
“If you live or work in Hamilton County, please sign up for our emergency notifications, we will probably be sending out those notifications, starting tomorrow, when we get closer to the wind, the weather system is going to be approaching Hamilton County,” Maxwell concluded.
The City of Dalton will also brine the roadways on Thursday.
