City’s Latest Homicide Was Gang Member
But Chattanooga police are being cautious about describing the city’s latest homicide.
It occurred late Tuesday night and investigators are pulling out all the stops to find the killer–or killers.
This normally quiet area on Missionary Ridge was shaken by gunfire about 11:30 Tuesday night.
There shots–lots of shots but police won’t say how many.
They do say they found the body of a known gang member lying in the road.
CHIEF FRED FLETCHER, CPD "Officers responded to the scene and in the area of South Crest and Rosemont,we discovered a 20 year old named Kevin Albert who was shot multiple times and pronounced deceased at the scene."
Albert is said to have been a member of the Rolling 40’s gang. He posted this picture on his facebook page less than 24 hours before his death.
CHIEF FLETCHER "We have reason to believe that the parties involved in this knew each other ….so there is no particular reason to think that people who live in that neighborhood are at an increased threat."
Police say they are looking for a red 4-door sedan seen in the area. Albert’s facebook friends say he was quote.."pushed from the car…and they lit him up." Unquote.
Police would like to talk to those acquaintances.
LT. GLENN SCRUGGS, COMMANDER, HOMICIDE DIVISION "There’s nothing further to share right now …we’re still in the very early stages of it….we’d hate to release anything prematurely that jeopardizes it."
CHIEF FLETCHER "We know there are people out there who know more about this incident ..both people who may have been witnesses to the scene…the aftermath of the scene …or people who know Mr. Albert and the scenario that may have precipatated this incident."
Chief Fletcher says despite continuing violence like the latest killing..most of the cities homicides in the last year have been cleared.
After a briefing from the chief last night, the city council voted to continue with the city’s year-old violence reduction initiative.
The 290-thousand dollar contract will continue with the non-profit group "Hope for the Inner City."
