Cleveland Appoints New Police Chief, David Bishop
J. David Bishop will serve as the Police Chief for the City of Cleveland.
Chief David Bishop is a 30-year veteran of the Cleveland Police Department. He worked as an Undercover Narcotics Officer from 1984-1987 and then worked on patrol for five years eventually becoming a Field Training Officer.
In 1992, Bishop was transferred to the Criminal Investigations Division as a detective where he worked for three years. In 1995, Bishop was promoted to Operations Sergeant overseeing a team of officers working patrol. He was promoted several years later to the Training Division as Lieutenant and then later transferred to work as Lieutenant over the Criminal Investigations Division. In 2008, Bishop was promoted to captain of Operations where he has served until being promoted to chief of Police.
Throughout his career at the Cleveland Police Department, Bishop received various awards such as Detective of the Year, Officer of the Year and Supervisor of the Year. He also received awards for Safe Driving, Team Work, Good Conduct and Meritorious Service.
