Cleveland Director of Schools Drops criminal complaint about fake Twitter accounts

CLEVELAND, Tenn (WDEF) – Dr. Martin Ringstaff has changed his mind and will not pursue a criminal complaint against Twitter accounts in his name that he calls fakes.

On Monday, he contacted Cleveland Police about the accounts.

The accounts detail a Facebook conversation in his name.

The Cleveland Schools Director released a statement Monday evening saying “I admit to having made previous mistakes in my personal life. My wife, Heather, and I have worked through these issues and are committed to our family and moving past my mistakes. With the support of the Cleveland City Schools Board of Education, I am dedicated to serving the students of Cleveland.”

Another release from the School Board says members unanimously support the Director and that the fake accounts were malicious attacks against him.

But our news partner, The Cleveland Daily Banner reports, that Dr. Ringstaff changed his stance late Monday.

He says he is withdrawing the complaint for the sake of his wife.

And he admitted to police that he did, in fact, make one of the statements on the post, but it is a year old.
