CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WDEF) – Thanks to generous businessmen, the Cleveland Police Department’s canine officers will now have the protection of bullet and stab proof vests.

Just two days ago, Mayor Tom Rowland made a public appeal. Mayor Rowland suggested a public appeal for donations in memory of Kathy Kinder. She served on the city’s Animal Shelter Board and was known as a tireless advocate for animal well-being.

Rowland and Councilman Richard Banks started the drive with a donation each.

The city reported Wednesday that businessmen Terry Posey, Don Corrington and Blue Ridge Mountain Outfitters each purchased a $1,200 vest.

“I want to thank each and every one who donated and all those who contacted us and planned to make a contribution,” Mayor Rowland said. “You have shown once again Cleveland is the city with spirit.”
