Clown Sighting in Fort Oglethorpe Area Unmasked

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.(WDEF)- Clown sightings are causing concern all over the South, and a few have made their way to the Fort Oglethorpe area.

“My 7-year-old child, was out here, playing in his new Halloween costume, and it just really got overblown into some bull crap.”

Jamie Cross says it was his son in the video that recently went viral showing another clown sighting in Georgia.

“We had a report back on the 19th, just a few days ago that over at one of our apartment complex there was a clown–a person dressed up like a clown, walking around with a knife.”

Fort. Oglethorpe Police Captain, Gary McConathy says Monday’s clown sighting is just one of many popping up.
But this time, Pamela Ray and her niece Shareda say they were at home when they saw this one, and captured it on video.

“I was like, what ya’ll screaming for? And she said it’s a clown outside. And when I got to the window, it was standing right here, and it was waving that little knife thing, and it was going like this. And so  Shareda said, I’m finna take a video just in case the police come.”

Ray says she refused to come outside, for fear of what the clown might do.

“And he stood out here for about five or ten minutes, and then he got ready to leave, and he was just like…. and then he just took off running.”

“And for him to come outside, and they letting him come outside!”

When Ray discovered the clown she saw that day was only a 7-year-old child, she says she was relieved to know, but was still upset by what happened.

“People are dressing up, in Halloween costumes and taking kids…”

“If you see somebody dressed up like a clown, other than on Halloween, contact your local law enforcement. And there’s probably nothing to it, but we would at least like to personally meet with these folks, and let them know that this is not the time to be playing, because there’s been so much media on this all over the country that it is just not very safe to be doing this kind of activity.”

According to Georgia law it is a illegal to wear a mask in public at any time, with the exception of Halloween, sporting events, or for religious reasons.
