Co-workers remember woman killed in Dayton Boulevard crash

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Friends and co-workers are honoring a woman who was killed in a crash over the weekend.

On Monday morning, a woman added flowers to a memorial on the side of Dayton Boulevard. It is to honor Veronica Romero, 33. In addition to flowers, there are crosses and a sign reading, ‘Love you to the moon and back.’

Chattanooga Police say early Saturday morning a car crossed the double yellow line and hit Romero’s car. Investigators say she was traveling south on Dayton Boulevard. Romero was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. The other driver sustained serious, but non life threatening injuries.

Romero was on her way to work at Lillie Mae’s Place. Gina Hightower, a co-worker, says she was kind.

“Thinking of her family definitely and what a tragedy and what a loss it is. I am going to cry, but yeah,” Hightower said.

Co-workers are taking time to remember her.

“She was very bubbly, energetic, fast as lightning, I used to call her ninja. She was so fast. She was really an all around good person,” Hightower said.

At Lillie Mae’s Place, there is a donation jar on the counter to help Romero’s family during this difficult time.

“We are going to try to help out as much as we can. At this point we don’t know what the arrangements will be. We are going to try to be prepared for when we do know,” Hightower said.

Co-workers say their thoughts are with Romero’s family.

“We’re thinking about them and keep her in your heart. She was a good person. And just remember to always think about others you never know when a tragedy like this will happen,” Hightower said.

Back at the crash site friends, are grieving.

Visitation for Romero will be on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Williamson and Sons Funeral Home. The memorial service will be on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Chattanooga Police say charges are pending against the other driver in this case.
