Coahulla Creek Girls Basketball Team Enjoying Banner Season
Despite a loss on Tuesday evening, the Coahulla Creek girls basketball team is still 15-5 this season, and they remain on pace for the winningest year in school history.
Coahulla Creek has not enjoyed too much success, but when they beat a successful rival this year, that’s a victory worth more than braggin’ rights.
Said guard Ema Turner:”I think when we beat Northwest (Whitfield) because it’s Northwest, and we’ve always been like the step-sister of Northwest as (Jody) Bacchus says. And when we beat them with the buzzer beater and everything, ti was like. We all realized hey, we are good, and we can do it.”
Senior Lily Snyder hit that last second shot against Northwest Whitfield. Apparently buzzer beaters are old hat for Snyder this year.
Said head coach Jody Bacchus:”Lily has obviously been big for us all year. She has had two game winners and one game tie that sent us into overtime that we ended up winning that game.”
Reporter:”What happened when it happened twice?”
Said Snyder:”Um. I thought it was going to be different, but it was really the same. The excitement and the rush was all the same as the first one.”
Reporter:”How bizarre was it. I mean a last second shot is what every kid dreams of, and then you did it again.”
Said Snyder:”(chuckles) I know. It was crazy. It’s a lot. I’d say it’s hard to focus in and just concentrate on what you are supposed to do and what you need to do with the ball at that time.”
Maybe the Colts have that focus because they feature five seniors who have played since they were freshmen.
Said Bacchus:”They’re four years now of playing varsity level basketball, and that really makes a big difference. They have experience. Just feel real comfortable with them out there.”
Said Snyder:”Coming to last year and just building and growing. Setting school records and making school history. It’s just really fun.”
Said Turner:”Our biggest goal is to be region champs and just go as far as we can in state.”
