Coca Cola Plant worker injured in chemical leak

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – A worker at the Coca Cola plant on Amnicola Boulevard was injured this morning by a chemical leak.

Fire officials say that workers were mixing chlorine dioxide when it spewed out onto the worker.

Bruce Garner with the Chattanooga Fire Department calls the injury “serious.”

About 250 gallons of the chemical leaked, but it has been contained.

Garner says it is not a threat to the surrounding community.

The plant has been shut down until the spill is completely cleaned up.
